Coronavirus Signs And Symptoms On The Skin

A recent news release revealed that scientists who are trying to better understand the coronavirus discovered a new symptom similar to frostbite that everyone should watch out for.

New Coronavirus Symptom Appears

At this point, it’s well established that as a virus, SARS-CoV-2 (which is the virus behind the COVID-19 pandemic) mainly attacks our respiratory system. It means that it usually targets our lungs and other connected and relevant organs.

Because of this, symptoms of the disease usually show up as persistent coughing, shortness of breath, fever, flu-like symptoms and headaches. All of these are already proven to be COVID-19 symptoms and as such remain the top signs of a person suffering from the disease.

However, newer symptoms related to the coronavirus are also starting to show up as scientists and experts take a deeper dive into the virus that’s causing this pandemic. One of the additional symptoms that first came out is loss of smell and taste, which apparently happens because the coronavirus messes up our cells that are responsible for those senses. Another symptom that came out is diarrhea since there have been reports that the virus can also get transferred via the fecal-oral method, which comes from not washing our hands after we use the bathroom. Then there’s also mild pinkeye.

And now, a new symptom includes hives, painful red skin and something akin to frostbite, which have been seen in some COVID-19 patients, as per the French National Union of Dermatologists.

“Analysis of the many cases reported to SNDV shows that these manifestations can be associated with the novel coronavirus. We are alerting the public and the medical profession in order to detect these potentially contagious patients as quickly as possible,” a spokesman from the SNDV said.

Additionally, the CDC also listed “bluish lips or face” as a symptom, saying that “fever, cough and shortness of breath are coronavirus symptoms, which may appear two to 14 days after exposure. Other symptoms include trouble breathing, persistent pain or pressure in the chest, new confusion or inability to arouse and bluish lips or face.”
