It could be that the actress is about to make history as the first solo female Marvel movie hero. It could be that there are dozens of women and girls in the audience dressed in the blond hair and navy uniform of her superhuman pilot Carol Danvers. It could be that Larson spent a hard nine months training to get in shape for a\u00a0role that kicked her butt. It could be that there are 100 members of the Air Force sitting up front, some of whom worked with Larson on the film, smiling at her. It could be that she’s an Oscar-winning performer who is giving us what we want to see.<\/p>\n
Regardless, seeing the 29-year-old get emotional about any of that, in a glamorous gown that appears\u00a0to be covered in POW! starbursts from the comic book that inspired her movie, is touching.<\/p>\n
Marvel\u00a0emphasized the fact that this premiere is an\u00a0event<\/em>\u00a0when they blocked off\u00a0Hollywood Avenue to make way for a red carpet topped with humongous \u201cCAPTAIN MARVEL WORLD PREMIERE\u201d lettering. There was also that\u00a0alien ship\u00a0in the middle of the street. And a flyover of six F-16 Thunderbirds.<\/p>\n So a grand introduction to “Captain Marvel” inside of the theater was\u00a0not necessary.<\/p>\n \u2708\ufe0f Oooo\u00a0@usairforce\u00a0Thunderbirds just flew over the\u00a0#CaptainMarvel\u00a0premiere! Maj. Jennifer Piggott, who\u2019s at this event with other members of the\u00a0#AirForce, told me they\u2019re F-16 fighter jets.<\/p>\n \u2014 Carly Mallenbaum (@ThatGirlCarly)\u00a0March 5, 2019<\/p><\/blockquote>\n \u201cI\u2019m not gonna sit here and take too long,\u201d Larson said onstage.<\/p>\n She didn’t\u00a0need to tell the\u00a0crowd that there’s a sea change in an MCU previously overstuffed with machismo; the cast and crew in attendance \u2013 including\u00a0a female star, female director, female writers and a female editor\u2013 demonstrated that.<\/p>\n But actress Lashana Lynch, who plays single mother Maria Bambeau, did the closest thing to putting the premiere’s feminist vibe into words.
