A judge has intervened in\u00a0Hayden Panettiere\u2018s relationship with her fiance Brian Hickerson.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, the L.A. County District Attorney\u2019s Office charged\u00a0Brian Hickerson\u00a0with\u00a0one count of felony domestic violence\u00a0following his arrest earlier this month. Hickerson pleaded not guilty to the charge, a spokesperson for the District Attorney confirmed to PEOPLE. He\u2019s scheduled to return to court on June 26 for a preliminary hearing setting.<\/p>\n

RadarOnline\u00a0reports that a Los Angeles county judge also issued a protective order against Hickerson, preventing him from coming within 100 yards of the actress. A spokesperson for the District Attorney confirmed to PEOPLE that a protective order was issued during Thursday\u2019s arraignment, but could not elaborate further.<\/p>\n

According to RadarOnline, during the arraignment, the District Attorney claimed there were other unreported incidents of domestic violence in the relationship. Hickerson was also reportedly forbidden from owning firearms.<\/p>\n

If convicted, he faces up to four years in prison. Hickerson\u2019s lawyer had no comment when reached by PEOPLE.<\/p>\n

Hickerson was\u00a0arrested on a domestic violence charge\u00a0on May 2, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department previously confirmed to PEOPLE.\u00a0TMZ\u00a0reported at the time that Hickerson got into an alleged physical altercation with Panettiere. He was released later that day after posting a $50,000 bond, according to TMZ. (Neither responded to PEOPLE\u2019s request for comment on the arrest.)<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Nashville<\/em>\u00a0star, 29, was first linked to the aspiring actor last August, shortly after reports circulated that she and then-fianc\u00e9\u00a0Wladimir Klitschko\u00a0(the father of her 4-year-old daughter\u00a0Kaya)\u00a0had\u00a0split.<\/p>\n

Last week, insiders told PEOPLE the romance is a\u00a0source of concern\u00a0among Panettiere\u2019s friends and family. (It\u2019s not the first time they\u2019ve made headlines: Last November, they were reportedly involved in a\u00a0drunken altercation with Hickerson\u2019s dad.)<\/p>\n

\u201cHayden knows Brian has a bad temper and can be controlling, but there is an extreme attraction to it,\u201d said one source. \u201cAnd despite warnings from family and friends, the relationship seems solid.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBrian\u2019s reputation as a party boy is no secret in Hollywood,\u201d the source continued. \u201cThose close to Hayden are more worried than ever about this and his temper. But Hayden is taken with him. She thinks he is what she needs in her life now.\u201d<\/p>\n

A rep for Panettiere was unable to be reached. Hickerson did not respond to PEOPLE\u2019s request for comment, but he has\u00a0defended their romance\u00a0in the past.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust to be clear, Hayden\u2019s friends and family are not worried about her at all,\u201d he told\u00a0Access<\/em>\u00a0last fall. \u201cHayden is happy and healthy and so is our relationship. That is all I will comment on so please respect my privacy. Have a great day.\u201d<\/p>\n

A second source told PEOPLE that Hickerson \u201chas been a bad influence from the beginning.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHayden\u2019s friends and family are not happy with the relationship,\u201d the source said. \u201cShe\u2019s been acting more out of control since she\u2019s been with him.\u201d<\/p>\n
