There are two sides to every story. While\u00a0Natalie Portman<\/strong>\u00a0is adamant that she and\u00a0Moby<\/strong>never dated, the \u201cPorcelain\u201d singer has a different recollection of the pair\u2019s past relationship.<\/p>\n

\u201cI recently read a gossip piece wherein Natalie Portman said that we\u2019d never dated. This confused me, as we did, in fact, date,\u201d the musician, 53, captioned a\u00a0throwback picture of himself and Portman, 37, via Instagram on Wednesday, May 22. \u201cAnd after briefly dating in 1999 we remained friends for years. I like Natalie, and I respect her intelligence and activism. But, to be honest, I can\u2019t figure out why she would actively misrepresent the truth about our(albeit brief)involvement.\u201d<\/p>\n

While the Grammy nominee does not agree with the\u00a0Black Swan<\/em>\u00a0actress\u2019 memory, he harbors no animosity toward her. \u201cI completely respect Natalie\u2019s possible regret in dating me(to be fair, I would probably regret dating me, too),\u201d he added on Instagram. \u201cBut it doesn\u2019t alter the actual facts of our brief romantic history.\u201d<\/p>\n

Moby claimed in his new memoir,\u00a0Then It Fell Apart<\/em>, that he and the Oscar winner dated when they were 33 and 20, respectively. (Given their age difference, Portman would have been a teenager when Moby was 33.) The \u201cExtreme Ways\u201d crooner recalled in the book, which was released on May 2: \u201cAt midnight she brought me to her\u00a0[Harvard University] dorm room\u00a0and we lay down next to each other on her small bed. After she fell asleep I carefully extracted myself from her arms and took a taxi back to my hotel.\u201d<\/p>\n

The singer-songwriter said he \u201ctried to be Natalie\u2019s boyfriend,\u201d but she told him she had met someone else.<\/p>\n

Portman, for her part, has a different account of their past. \u201cI was surprised to hear that he characterized the very short time that I knew him as dating because my recollection is a much older man being creepy with me when I just had graduated high school,\u201d she told\u00a0Harper\u2019s Bazaar<\/em>\u00a0in an interview\u00a0published on Tuesday, May 21. \u201cHe said I was 20; I definitely wasn\u2019t. I was a teenager. I had just turned 18.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for what the\u00a0Avengers: End Game<\/em>\u00a0star\u2019s recollection of the time they spent together? \u201cI was a fan and went to one of his shows when I had just graduated,\u201d she said. \u201cWhen we met after the show, he said, \u2018Let\u2019s be friends.\u2019 He was on tour and I was working, shooting a film, so we only hung out a handful of times before I realized that this was an older man who was interested in me in a way that felt inappropriate.\u201d<\/p>\n
