Perry will perform before and after the match in what is hoped to be a record crowd at the MCG.<\/p>\n
The announcement was made 100 days from the start of the tournament that Australia will host from February 21.<\/p>\n
Perry is looking forward to performing at the MCG on a day that means a lot to her personally.<\/p>\n
\u201cI’m all about celebrating equality and the achievements of women, which naturally happens on a global scale on International Women’s Day,” Katy Perry said.<\/p>\n
“It\u2019s no coincidence that I said yes to performing live at the women’s final on this day.<\/p>\n
“I hope to bring a unifying, electric performance playing some of my most empowering songs for the best female cricketers on the planet.”<\/p>\n
Perry has quite an extensive history with cricket, having performed at the IPL in 2012.<\/p>\n
The performance was particularly memorable for her chemistry with Australian cult figure Doug Bollinger who she appeared on stage with.<\/p>\n

The performance actually drew some complaints and an Indian court heard claims of ‘indecency’ against Perry and Bollinger at the time.<\/p>\n
Nothing eventuated from the claim, but it left us with some of the best photos of all time.<\/p>\n
The CEO of the T20 World Cup Local Organising Committee, Nick Hockley, believes the performance will give the event even more world exposure.<\/p>\n
“What better way to celebrate than the T20 World Cup final at the MCG on International Women\u2019s Day and who better to lead that celebration than Katy Perry,” Hockley said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are seeing incredible momentum in the development of cricket as a sport for women and girls.<\/p>\n
“ICC Women\u2019s T20 World Cup in Australia is a perfectly timed opportunity to accelerate this change and take the game to new audiences.”<\/p>\n
