{"id":52525,"date":"2020-01-10T22:27:20","date_gmt":"2020-01-10T18:57:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nasimword.ir\/?p=52525"},"modified":"2020-01-10T22:27:20","modified_gmt":"2020-01-10T18:57:20","slug":"yellowstone-tourists-get-jail-time-for-trespassing-at-old-faithful","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nasimword.ir\/?p=52525&lang=en","title":{"rendered":"Yellowstone tourists get jail time for trespassing at Old Faithful"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">Two men have been sentenced to 10 days in jail after pleading guilty to trespassing on the cone of Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"http:\/\/nasimword.ir\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/BBYNqVO.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-52526\" src=\"http:\/\/nasimword.ir\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/BBYNqVO.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"799\" height=\"464\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nasimword.ir\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/BBYNqVO.jpg 799w, https:\/\/nasimword.ir\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/BBYNqVO-300x174.jpg 300w, https:\/\/nasimword.ir\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/BBYNqVO-768x446.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 799px) 100vw, 799px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Eric Schefflin, 20, of Lakewood, Colo., and Ryan Goetz, 25, of Woodstock, N.Y., were sentenced on Dec. 5 by U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark Carman at Yellowstone Justice Center in Mammoth Hot Springs, Wyo.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The case had been pending since the men were cited on Sept. 10, 2019, after several witnesses watched them walking toward and onto the out-of-bounds cone of iconic thermal feature.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The men also were banned from Yellowstone National Park for five years and ordered to pay $540 in restitution, according to a news release issued Thursday by the park.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cVisitors must realize that walking on thermal features is dangerous, damages the resource, and illegal,\u201d said Chief Ranger Sarah Davis. \u201cLaw enforcement officers take this violation seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Trespassing beyond the safety of boardwalks at Yellowstone\u2019s thermal features is a common problem despite the potential for injury or death.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"http:\/\/nasimword.ir\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/BBYNhmc.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-52527\" src=\"http:\/\/nasimword.ir\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/BBYNhmc.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"799\" height=\"533\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nasimword.ir\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/BBYNhmc.jpg 799w, https:\/\/nasimword.ir\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/BBYNhmc-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/nasimword.ir\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/BBYNhmc-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 799px) 100vw, 799px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Late last September a 48-year-old tourist was severely burned after falling into a hot spring near Old Faithful, while walking at night with a flashlight.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In June 2017 a man received moderate burns after he fell into a hot spring at Lower Geyser Basin.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In 2016 a man died after he fell into a hot spring at Norris Geyser Basin, and in August 2000 a man died and two other tourists were severely burned after they fell into a hot spring at Lower Geyser Basin.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">A park spokeswoman told ForTheWin Outdoors that thermal trespass violations are misdemeanors and can result in fines of up to $5,000, plus up to six months in jail.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u2013Images showing Old Faithful and thermal features are courtesy of \u00a9Pete Thomas and Yellowstone National Parks<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two men have been sentenced to 10 days in jail after pleading guilty to trespassing on the cone of Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park.
