while recovering\u00a0from the novel coronavirus<\/a>\u00a0in his New York City home, where he is currently quarantined away from his wife and kids. He told people he’s speaking out because he wants everyone to understand, “We have to do\u00a0everything we can to avoid being\u00a0sick.”<\/p>\n“We have to do it for ours, our\u00a0families and for those on the\u00a0front lines, we are saving the\u00a0lives of people like me and many\u00a0of you.\u00a0Together as ever as one.\u00a0That is our remedy,” he implored. “What do you say?\u00a0Let’s get after it.”<\/p>\n
As for the illness, Cuomo doesn’t detail his symptoms or how he feels physically, but said the virus is taking an emotional toll on him because he’s “not able to be there for my\u00a0family right now in the what I\u00a0that I want to be.”<\/p>\n
Moreover, the father-of-three said he has a “sickening” fear that he might’ve passed the illness onto members of his family.<\/p>\n
But as he waits to see if they show symptoms, the news anchor is more than willing to\u00a0self-isolate in their basement. “My basement is great.\u00a0It’s not going to be a hardship, but I can’t go hug my kids.\u00a0I can’t be with my family. I can’t go out and get anything for them.” he shared.<\/p>\n
As upsetting as this is for the 49-year-old, he acknowledged there are bigger issues in the world.<\/p>\n
“This is so small compared to what so many are facing and we’re gonna all go through this together\u2026. This is a fight. It’s going to get worse. We’re going to suffer. And you have to accept that not with fear but with almost a fanatical sense of passion to fight,” he said. “Because that’s the only way you ever made it through anything hard in your life and this will be no different.”<\/p>\n
He asked, “How many people do you know who\u00a0are worried about losing a job,\u00a0lost a job, are not sure how to\u00a0get food on the table?”<\/p>\n
The host then injected a bit of humor by admitting this whole situation is “weird, adding, “Now, unlike me, you will not\u00a0have the added oddity of\u00a0watching in real time as your\u00a0brother\u00a0addresses the nation and\u00a0discusses the fact that you have\u00a0just caught the virus.”<\/p>\n
Things took a serious tone when Chris referred back to a speech made by his brother, New York governor\u00a0Andrew Cuomo<\/strong>, about him testing positive for COVID-19. He remarked, “Of course, it’s going to freak him out,” especially since Chris said he is “fighting something that we don’t\u00a0really understand.”<\/p>\n“I’ve never seen\u00a0anything like that before where\u00a0there’s, like, nothing you can\u00a0do.\u00a0The tightness in my chest is\u00a0tough to account for.\u00a0Is it the virus?\u00a0Or is it the choking concern of\u00a0my inability to do what matters\u00a0most, which is the same thing\u00a0for you, to care for my family?” He continued,\u00a0“Look what I’ve done.\u00a0Look what I am now.\u00a0I can’t help.\u00a0I can’t be there.\u00a0I can’t even hold them.\u00a0For how long?\u00a0Weeks?”<\/p>\n
