Jim Parsons<\/a>\u00a0is opening up about his experience with the novel\u00a0coronavirus<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Boys in the Band\u00a0<\/em>star, 47, revealed during Monday’s episode of\u00a0The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon<\/em><\/a>\u00a0that he and his husband, Todd Spiewak, had contracted COVID-19 earlier this year.<\/p>\n

\u2033Todd and I both had it early on. It was, like, middle of March,\u2033 Parsons recalled to host Jimmy Fallon. \u2033We didn’t know what it was. We thought we had colds. And then it seemed less likely, and then finally we lost our sense of smell and taste.\u2033<\/p>\n

\u2033It defied the descriptions for me. I didn’t realize how completely taste and smell could be gone,\u2033 he continued of his symptoms. \u2033And when you’re in quarantine and there’s really nothing to do but eat, oh my God, that was brutal.”<\/p>\n

Though Parsons couldn’t taste anything at the time, he admitted that he still \u2033ate everything.\u2033<\/p>\n

\u2033I just didn’t taste it. It’s the definition of wasted calories,” he joked.<\/p>\n

The loss of taste and smell appears to be an early sign of COVID-19 and was a common symptom among patients in South Korea, China and Italy,\u00a0according to ENT UK<\/a>, an organization of ear, nose and throat doctors in the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n

Parsons and Spiewak, 43, have since recovered from the coronavirus. The couple, who\u00a0married in 2017<\/a>, have been isolating at home together \u2014 and even had\u00a0some fun with bleaching Parsons’ hair<\/a>\u00a0during their time in quarantine.<\/p>\n

\u2033About six weeks in, and we had been sick, I thought, ‘Screw it!’ \u2033 Parsons said of dyeing his brown locks to golden blonde. \u2033Todd did it. It took about six hours and it burned my scalp. But you know what, beauty is pain.\u2033<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Big Bang Theory\u00a0<\/em>alum first debuted this new look in May during SiriusXM’s Virtual Town Hall, joking that \u2033quarantine causes changes\u2033 after showing off his blonde hair.<\/p>\n

\u2033I wanted to shake things up for the husband, who only has one companion. Now he’s got sort of one-and-a-half companions,\u2033 Parsons teased. \u2033You know, a little new thing to jazz it up.”<\/p>\n

As of Tuesday, there have more than 7,188,100 COVID-19 cases and 205,200 deaths from coronavirus-related illnesses\u00a0in the United States, according to aNew York Times<\/em><\/a>\u00a0database.<\/p>\n
