He is currently on a regimen of very strong painkillers and must remain confined largely to his bed, where he has round-the-clock care by nurses, according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.the-sun.com\/news\/1609553\/simon-cowell-out-six-months-surgery-complications\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Sun<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">He\u2019s also required to wear a brace.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Despite initial good news and optimism \u2014 his co-star Howie Mandel reporting in August that Cowell was \u201cdoing spectacularly well, considering,\u201d and confirming Cowell was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2020\/08\/11\/simon-cowell-walking-around-joking-after-breaking-his-back\/?_ga=2.214255831.1164555056.1596973172-365903078.1573489856\">already walking around<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 things have taken a turn for the worse.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">New speculation is that Cowell will be out of commission for at least six more months and is in a lot of pain \u2014and he won\u2019t even record messages for \u201cAGT\u201d from his bed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">\u201cIt\u2019s been a rough few weeks,\u201d a friend told the Sun. \u201cSimon\u2019s a fighter and fairly gung-ho. Naturally, he thought he\u2019d be out of action for a few weeks and then, if not doing iron man contests, at least be back on the showbiz circuit. Instead, he\u2019s had a setback from surgery to fuse two vertebrae and it has proven more complicated than a standard break.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Cowell is being looked after at his Malibu spread by his girlfriend Lauren Silverman, the mother of their 6-year-old son Eric.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">While Cowell was thinking of taping messages for \u201cAGT\u201d and its sister show \u201cBritain\u2019s Got Talent,\u201d he has since nixed the idea.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">\u201cSimon is joking and in decent spirits,\u201d a source told The Sun. \u201cBut he\u2019s also quite vain and the idea of going on national TV with no studio make-up, and while on heavy-duty medication, didn\u2019t appeal.
