Tom Kennedy<\/a>, the television game show host for \u201cYou Don\u2019t Say!\u201d and \u201cName That Tune<\/a>,\u201d died on Oct. 7 in Oxnard, Calif. He was 93.<\/p>\n

Kennedy\u2019s close friend Steve Beverly confirmed his death on\u00a0Facebook<\/a>, writing: \u201cTom had not been well in recent months but remained in communication with his family and close friends\u2026 Later, after I have time to clearly process this, I will offer my own remembrances of a relationship that evolved from his being my childhood icon to a genuine friendship I will always cherish.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kennedy was born Jim Narz on Feb. 26., 1927 in Louisville, Ky. Inspired by his older brother, Jack, who was also a television host, Kennedy moved to Los Angeles in 1947 to begin a broadcast career. After 10 years in radio and marrying his high school sweetheart, Betty Gevedon, Kennedy began hosting\u00a0game shows<\/a>\u00a0as they rose to popularity in the \u201950s. But, with his brother a host as well, he decided to change his name to avoid confusion, and in 1957 he became Tom Kennedy.<\/p>\n

He went on to host various game shows for nearly three decades, with his biggest successes being \u201cYou Don\u2019t Say!\u201d on NBC from 1963 to 1969, \u201cSplit Second\u201d from 1972 to 1975, \u201cName That Tune\u201d from 1974 to 1981 and \u201cPassword Plus\u201d from 1980 to 1982. His other hosting credits include \u201cThe Big Game,\u201d \u201cDr. I.Q.,\u201d \u201cIt\u2019s Your Bet,\u201d \u201cBreak the Bank,\u201d \u201c50 Grand Slam,\u201d \u201cTo Say the Least,\u201d \u201cWhew!\u201d and \u201cBody Language.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kennedy also hosted a nighttime, syndicated edition of \u201cThe Price Is Right\u201d from 1985 to 1986, and briefly had his own talk show, \u201cThe Real Tom Kennedy Show.\u201d Kennedy retired in 1989. In 2005, Kennedy and his brother, Narz, both received the Game Show Congress\u2019 Bill Cullen award for lifetime achievement.<\/p>\n

Kennedy is survived by his children Linda Ann Narz, James Narz Jr. and Courtney Ellen Narz, in addition to his daughter-in-law Linda Papulis Narz, granddaughter Abigail Norah Narz and his sister, Mary Lovett Scully.<\/p>\n
