Netflix has been a haven for fans of teenage vampire melodrama for years thanks to seasons of\u00a0The Vampire Diaries<\/em>,\u00a0The Originals<\/em>, and\u00a0Legacies<\/em>, and now the streamer is adding an original series to join the ranks. A young adult vampire drama is on the way with none other than\u00a0horror veteran Emma Roberts<\/a>\u00a0on board, and Netflix has already given a series order.<\/p>\n

The new vampire drama will be called\u00a0First Kill<\/em>, with\u00a0Scream Queens<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0American Horror Story<\/em>\u00a0alum Emma Roberts<\/a>\u00a0set to executive produce, according to\u00a0Variety<\/a>. Based on a short story of the same name penned by Victoria Schwab, the show will see teen vampire Juliette preparing to take her place within a powerful vampire family, which requires her to make her first kill.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Unfortunately for Juliette, her chosen victim turns out to be a vampire hunter by the name of Calliope, who comes from a family of vampire slayers. Calliope is a new girl in town, but Juliette will discover that she’s not going to be easy to kill, and Calliope won’t have an easy time trying to take down Juliette either. In true teen vampire drama form, the animosity could turn into something steamier, as they realize it’s “way too easy” to fall for each other.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

First Kill<\/em>\u00a0received an order for eight episodes from Netflix. Victoria Schwab created the series and is on board as co-writer and executive producer, which presumably means that the series will have a similar tone and feel to the short story, even if an eight-episode season has to go beyond what happened in the story. Schwab’s story was published back in September as part of a collection called\u00a0Vampires Never Get Old: Tales with Fresh Bite<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The series order for the new vampire drama comes less than a year after\u00a0Vampire Diaries<\/em>\u00a0alum\u00a0Ian Somerhalder’s Netflix vampire show<\/a>\u00a0was cancelled after running\u00a0for only one season<\/a>. To contrast,\u00a0Legacies<\/em>\u00a0(which will return for Season 3 in 2021) along with ended series\u00a0The Vampire Diaries<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0The Originals<\/em>\u00a0have seemingly done well on the streamer. Maybe Somerhalder’s\u00a0V-Wars<\/em>\u00a0didn’t have enough teen love triangles!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Vampire Diaries<\/em>\u00a0fans who rely on Netflix for their fix of the series panicked earlier this year when it seemed all eight seasons\u00a0would no longer be available<\/a>, and\u00a0Vampire Diaries<\/em>\/Originals<\/em>\/Legacies<\/em>\u00a0creator Julie Plec has revealed that\u00a0Legacies<\/em>\u00a0was actually bringing in new fans of the previous series. Netflix hasn’t announced when\u00a0First Kill<\/em>\u00a0will begin production, let alone be ready to premiere, but Netflix does offer plenty of vampire action during the wait.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

On top of\u00a0The Vampire Diaries<\/em>,\u00a0The Originals<\/em>, and the first two seasons of\u00a0Legacies<\/em>, you can find vampire options including\u00a0Dracula<\/em>,\u00a0Van Helsing<\/em>,\u00a0V-Wars<\/em>, and more.
