Marge Champion<\/a>, a dancer and actor who served as the real-life model for Disney\u2019s 1937 animated classic \u201cSnow White<\/a>\u00a0and the Seven Dwarfs,\u201d died on Wednesday in Los Angeles, according to The New York Times. She was 101.<\/p>\n

Champion and her husband, Gower Champion, also had great success as dance partners and choreographers for Broadway musicals, films and television shows. Champion won an Emmy award in 1975 for choreographing the television movie \u201cQueen of the Stardust Ballroom.\u201d<\/p>\n

Marge and Gower Champion most notably danced together in multiple MGM musicals, including the 1951 remake of \u201cShow Boat\u201d starring Howard Keel, Kathryn Grayson and Ava Gardner.<\/p>\n

In addition to \u201cSnow White,\u201d Champion\u2019s elegant dance moves served as the inspiration for the Blue Fairy in \u201cPinocchio\u201d and the tutu-wearing hippo ballerinas in the \u201cDance of the Hours\u201d number in \u201cFantasia.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Champions danced across television screens in the late 1940s and 1950s, first appearing in \u201cAdmiral Broadway Revue\u201d with Sid Caesar and Imogene Coca on NBC. Their performances sparkled with built-in narratives, touches of parody and hints of nostalgia. They also were featured on \u201cThe Bell Telephone Hour,\u201d \u201cGeneral Electric Theater,\u201d \u201cThe Ed Sullivan Show\u201d and \u201cThe Dinah Shore Chevy Show.\u201d The received their own sitcom, \u201cThe Marge and Gower Champion Show\u201d in 1957.<\/p>\n

Champion\u2019s film credits include \u201cMr. Music,\u201d \u201cShow Boat,\u201d \u201cLovely to Look At,\u201d \u201cI Won\u2019t Dance\u201d and \u201cEverything I Have Is Yours.\u201d On Broadway, she performed in \u201cMake a Wish,\u201d \u201cDark of the Moon\u201d and \u201cBeggar\u2019s Holiday.\u201d She also taught dance and choreography in New York and was a member of the Tony Awards nominating committee.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
