Allegations by brands that claim fashion influencer Danielle Bernstein has lifted their designs for her own line seem to be following a familiar pattern.<\/p>\n
Indie brand Grayscale has alleged that Bernstein stole a skirt design for her line with Macy\u2019s after ordering the item from the brand. Grayscale said on Instagram that Bernstein\u2019s piece is a \u201cdirect copy,\u201d and, \u201cIn 2017, she ordered one and even did a YouTube review\u201d of the product.<\/p>\n
The LA-based brand\u2019s owner and designer Khala Whitney told Page Six: \u201cYou never want to be the brand that is in drama or a messy situation. It\u2019s unfortunate this has to happen \u2026 She clearly thinks she can get away with anything.\u201d Whitney added, \u201cShe keeps getting a slap on the wrist and then doing it again. It\u2019s not fair. At a certain point you have to learn, this just isn\u2019t right.\u201d<\/p>\n
Whitney \u2014 who said the skirt has been worn by high-profile celebs such as Cardi B and Keke Palmer \u2014 thinks the department store should\u2019ve noticed it was a copy. \u201cNo one at a fashion company thought this looks familiar?\u201d she wondered.<\/p>\n
Whitney, who is black, noted that Macy\u2019s has said it will sell more products by black designers. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t add up or make sense,\u201d she said. \u201cNow is not the time to be stealing designs and especially not from black designers.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bernstein is\u00a0currently in a legal battle with undies brand the Great Eros<\/a>\u00a0over allegedly copying a design. She was also\u00a0previously accused of swiping a mask design<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 which she has denied \u2014 and was accused of copying jewelry for a line with Nordstrom. Bernstein denied it, but a rep for Nordstrom said at the time: \u201cWe take situations like this seriously and partnered with Lulu DK and Danielle Bernstein to remove each of the pieces in question.
