\nBlake Shelton is facing backlash for debuting a song titled \u201cMinimum Wage\u201d while people in America continue to struggle amid the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Voice\u201d coach debuted the new single on NBC\u2019s New Year\u2019s Eve television special alongside Carson Daly to help ring in 2021. The country singer told the host that his fiancee, Gwen Stefani, helped get her brother, Todd, to direct the video.<\/p>\n
The artist\u2019s new song has to do with his love for the 51-year-old \u201cHollaback Girl\u201d singer and contains a lyric in the chorus that upset many people who saw the broadcast.<\/p>\n
\u201cGirl, your love can make a man feel rich on minimum wage.\u201d<\/p>\n
Given the fact that the coronavirus pandemic has caused many businesses to shut down and put countless Americans out of work, people were quick to take to Twitter to lambaste the singer for releasing a song they believed was \u201ctone deaf\u201d given the current climate.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe irony of listening to a millionaire Blake Shelton singing about \u2018love on minimum wage\u2019 at the end of 2020 might be lost on its target audience,\u201d one user wrote.<\/p>\n
\u201cI love his music but the timing for Minimum Wage isn\u2019t great. With so many people out of work and struggling the song feels a little tone deaf. I\u2019d like to hear songs that are more personal. Wish he wrote more of his own stuff because he\u2019s an incredible song writer,\u201d another wrote in a tweet that was unavailable as of Sunday.<\/p>\n
Someone else agreed, writing: \u201cDoes anyone else find Blake Shelton\u2019s \u201cMinimum Wage\u201d song to be incredibly tone deaf to our country\u2019s current state?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cPlease apologize to everyone for your song \u2018minimum wage.\u2019 From what I read you\u2019ve p\u2014-d a lot of people off during a time when we need songs of hope and charity not more crap about how much you and Gwen are in love. What an insult to all of us. Boooooo,\u201d a more blunt user added.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat!? @blakeshelton is #MinimumWage even for real? Yes of course @gwenstefani can make a dude on minimum wage feel rich cuz she\u2019s a millionaire. Are you working at the Home Depot now or something? Wanna pay my rent?\u201d someone else concluded.<\/p>\n
The song has not yet been fully released and Shelton has yet to publicly comment on the backlash on social media.<\/p>\n

In the U.S., all 50 states plus the District of Columbia have reported confirmed cases of COVID-19, tallying more than 19,744,737 illnesses and at least 350,000 deaths.<\/p>\n
