Amber Heard<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>is\u00a0speaking out about\u00a0Johnny Depp<\/a>‘s legal team’s claim that she hasn’t\u00a0donated the money<\/a>\u00a0from their divorce settlement to charities, as she promised she would in 2016.<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0a new report by\u00a0The Daily Mail<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>published Thursday, Jan. 7, the\u00a0Pirates of the Caribbean\u00a0<\/em>actor’s lawyers say they intend to use the\u00a0allegation as part of their efforts to appeal British High Court judge\u00a0Andrew Nichol<\/strong>‘s\u00a0decision in\u00a0Depp’s defamation case against\u00a0The Sun<\/em><\/a>. In that case, Nichol sided\u00a0with\u00a0The Sun<\/em>, arguing in his decision, “Her donation of the $7 million to charity is hardly the act one would expect of a gold-digger.”<\/p>\n

In a statement to E! News, the\u00a0Aquaman<\/em>\u00a0actress’\u00a0attorney\u00a0Elaine Bredehoft<\/strong>\u00a0confirms her client has yet to fulfill the $7 million pledge she made to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and the American Civil Liberties Union, citing financial reasons.<\/p>\n

“Amber has already been responsible for seven figures in donations to charitable causes and intends to continue to contribute and eventually fulfill her pledge,” Bredehoft explains. “However, Amber has been delayed in that goal because Mr. Depp filed a lawsuit against her, and consequently, she has been forced to spend millions of dollars defending Mr. Depp’s false accusations against her.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

In a statement to E! News, a Children’s Hospital Los Angeles spokesperson says, “Due to circumstances of the litigation, CHLA is legally precluded from sharing details about the case publicly.”<\/p>\n

The ACLU did not return requests for comment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

Bredehoft also alleges that Depp’s legal representatives are purposefully speculating about the status of Heard’s donation to draw focus away from the actor’s ongoing legal woes.<\/p>\n

She claims, “Mr. Depp’s effort to plant stories in the media criticizing Amber for not yet fulfilling all the donations she pledged to charity is yet another desperate attempt to divert attention from the UK Court’s findings relating to allegations of Mr. Depp committing domestic abuse and violence.”<\/p>\n

Following Judge Nichol’s decision, Depp was asked to\u00a0exit his role as\u00a0Grindelwald\u00a0<\/a>in the film\u00a0Fantastic Beasts<\/em>. While he’s no longer starring in the Warner Bros. film,\u00a0The Hollywood Reporter<\/em>\u00a0wrote at the time that Depp will\u00a0still\u00a0receive the full salary<\/a>\u00a0for the project.<\/p>\n

Mads Mikkelsen<\/strong>\u00a0is now set to apprise the role<\/a>\u00a0in the third installment of the movie, which is based on\u00a0J.K. Rowling<\/strong>‘s books.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

Meanwhile, Depp is currently\u00a0suing Heard for defamation<\/a>\u00a0in the British High Court, arguing that the actress’\u00a0allegations of domestic abuse in\u00a0The Washington Post<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>were\u00a0all part of an “elaborate hoax.”\u00a0Because of the alleged damage\u00a0her accusations caused\u00a0his career, Depp is suing Heard for defamation and asking for damages in excess of $50,000,000. Amber denied the allegations, with her attorney claiming to E! News that Depp was trying to “silence” her.<\/p>\n

E! News reached out to Depp’s rep and legal team for comment. We did not hear back.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n
