Nicole Kidman<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Javier Bardem<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>are ready to become the\u00a0Ricardos. The two Oscar winners may have found their next roles in\u00a0Lucille Ball<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Desi Arnaz<\/strong>, respectively.<\/p>\n

E! News confirmed Kidman, 53, and Bardem, 51,\u00a0are in talks to portray the famous\u00a0I Love Lucy<\/em>\u00a0<\/a>co-stars and off-screen lovers in the movie\u00a0Being the Ricardos.<\/em><\/p>\n

The Trial of the Chicago 7<\/em>‘s\u00a0Aaron Sorkin\u00a0<\/strong>wrote the script and will direct it for Amazon Studios and\u00a0Escape Artists.<\/p>\n

The meta\u00a0Being the Ricardos<\/em>\u00a0movie will follow Ball and Arnaz during a challenging week of filming the 1950s TV show\u00a0I Love Lucy.\u00a0<\/em>The plot starts during a Monday table read and ends with a TV shoot on Friday in front of a live audience, according to\u00a0Deadline<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

The couple’s children,\u00a0Lucie Arnaz<\/strong>, 69, and\u00a0Desi Arnaz Jr.<\/strong>, 67, will executive produce their parents’ official biopic.<\/p>\n

Ball and Arnaz got married in 1940 before co-starring in the popular\u00a0I Love Lucy<\/em>, which ran from 1951 to 1957. They divorced in 1960<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

In 2019, Lucie Arnaz spoke with\u00a0Good Morning America<\/a><\/em>\u00a0about what she wanted the film to communicate to fans.<\/p>\n

“It’s always been hard for me to really comprehend the enormity of what I grew up in and her popularity. It creates an enormous amount of pride,” she said, adding that the movie will depict “the good, the bad, the ugly but primarily the good.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

However, the project seems to have faced\u00a0several shakeups.<\/p>\n

Back in 2015, news broke that Sorkin was interested in writing the screenplay. However,\u00a0Twitter users immediately spoke out<\/a>\u00a0against the choice and criticized\u00a0The Social Network<\/em>\u00a0scribe for not writing female characters with enough depth.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

At the time,\u00a0Cate Blanchett<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0was in talks to portray Ball and\u00a0was later confirmed for the iconic role<\/a>\u00a0in 2017.<\/p>\n

In 2018, she spoke with\u00a0The Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a>\u00a0about the honor of portraying the small screen legend.\u00a0The\u00a0Carol<\/em>\u00a0actress said, “I’ve long been obsessed by Lucille Ball. Who hasn’t? I mean she’s not only as an actress, as a comedian, but as a producer, as a parent, as a force of nature within Hollywood.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

It’s unclear why Blanchett exited the project, though it seems that Amazon is preparing to officially\u00a0replace\u00a0her with Kidman, who recently made waves in\u00a0Big Little Lies<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0The Undoing<\/em>.<\/p>\n

As for Bardem, the\u00a0Skyfall<\/em>\u00a0actor is currently working on\u00a0The Little Mermaid<\/em>\u00a0live-action film<\/a>, in which he’ll star as the King Triton to\u00a0Halle Bailey<\/strong>‘s Ariel<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n
