That didn’t take long! It might be time for\u00a0Chris Evans<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0to pull his shield out of the back of his closet, because he’s reportedly returning to the\u00a0Marvel Cinematic Universe<\/a>.<\/p>\n

After spending nearly a decade\u00a0portraying Captain America onscreen, Chris\u00a0stepped down from the iconic role<\/a>\u00a0once\u00a0Avengers: Endgame<\/em>\u00a0was released in 2019. Now, he may be preparing to don the starry suit once again to reprise the part in some capacity for a\u00a0future mystery project.<\/p>\n

On Jan. 14,\u00a0Deadline<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>reported Chris will return as\u00a0Steve Rogers (aka Captain America) in at least one more film, if not two. The outlet notes\u00a0it likely won’t\u00a0be for another solo Captain America movie, but rather an appearance by the superhero in another Marvel flick, similar to how Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.<\/strong><\/a>)\u00a0reappeared\u00a0in\u00a0Captain America: Civil War<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Spider-Man: Homecoming<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The film is not set in stone, as Chris himself seemed to shut down the rumors on Thursday afternoon by\u00a0tweeting<\/a>, “News to me,” along with a shrugging emoji. However, he did enjoy reading all the fan theories,\u00a0writing<\/a>, “Some of the gif responses are priceless” and “good work, everyone.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

So, it remains unclear\u00a0if, when and how Chris will return, but\u00a0Deadline<\/em>\u00a0noted his options are “unlimited.” According to\u00a0Variety,<\/a><\/em>\u00a0details of his all-American comeback are still “vague.”<\/p>\n

The shocking move comes after Chris\u00a0metaphorically and literally handed over his shield to\u00a0Anthony Mackie<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(Sam Wilson aka Falcon) in the final film, signaling his days as Captain America were done.<\/p>\n

In 2018, he\u00a0fueled rumors of his retirement<\/a>\u00a0from the MCU\u00a0by sharing his philosophy on quitting while you’re ahead: “You want to get off the train before they push you off,” he told\u00a0The New York Times<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The 39-year-old actor\u00a0wrote an emotional tribute on Twitter<\/a>\u00a0after he finished filming\u00a0later that year.\u00a0“Officially wrapped on\u00a0Avengers 4<\/em>. It was an emotional day to say the least. Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor,” he said. “To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

Hopefully, it was\u00a0more of a “see you later”\u00a0than a permanent “goodbye.”<\/p>\n
