Joanne Rogers, the widow of \u201cMister Rogers\u2019 Neighborhood\u201d host Fred Rogers, died Thursday at age 92.<\/p>\n
Her passing was announced by her late husband\u2019s production company on Twitter.<\/p>\n
\u201cFred Rogers Productions is deeply saddened by the passing of Joanne Rogers. The loving partner of Fred Rogers for more than 50 years, she continued their shared commitment to supporting children and families after his death as chair of the board of Fred Rogers Productions,\u201d the company wrote.<\/p>\n
\u201cJoanne was a brilliant and accomplished musician, a wonderful advocate for the arts, and a dear friend to everyone in our organization. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Joanne\u2019s family and the thousands of people who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.\u201d<\/p>\n
Her beloved husband, who hosted the children\u2019s show from 1968 to 2001, died in 2003 at age 74. The couple married in 1952.<\/p>\n
The city of Pittsburgh, where the show was filmed, also saluted Joanne in a tweet, calling her one of the city\u2019s \u201cfavorite neighbors\u201d and acknowledging that the duo \u201cforever changed our city.\u201d<\/p>\n
After his death, Joanne continued promoting the legacy of her late husband, who was depicted in a charming 2019 biopic, \u201cA Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,\u201d starring Tom Hanks. She said her entertaining husband would have appreciated the film, telling Page Six at a screening, \u201cI think he would have really loved it, don\u2019t you?\u201d<\/p>\n
The couple was especially close-knit, and Joanne once said that Fred\u2019s charms came through in quirky ways at times. She said when they would attend less-than-exciting events together, he would get her to smile by farting in front of her. \u201cHe would just raise one cheek and he would look at me and smile,\u201d she said, laughing, during an interview with the Los Angeles Times in 2019.<\/p>\n
