Nicki Minaj<\/a>‘s father, Robert Maraj, has died after a fatal hit-and-run accident, her representative Joseph Carozza\u00a0confirmed to USA TODAY.<\/p>\n

Maraj was crossing the street in Long Island\u00a0when he was struck by a vehicle, which then fled the scene, according to the Nassau County Police. He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition on Friday and pronounced dead the following day. He was 64.<\/p>\n

Minaj, born\u00a0Onika Tanya Maraj in Trinidad and Tobago and raised in Queens, New York,\u00a0has not yet spoken publicly about his death.<\/p>\n

The 38-year-old rapper gave birth to her\u00a0first child with husband Kenneth Petty last September in Los Angeles.\u00a0Minaj announced that she was expecting her first child in July 2020,\u00a0just a few months after the performer said she would be retiring.<\/p>\n

The couple has been\u00a0private about their new baby boy and his name, though Minaj revealed last month\u00a0that they almost named him Ninja. Last month, she shared a first look at her son with\u00a0five close-up photos and a\u00a0short video clip, some of which show him dressed to the nines in Fendi and Versace.<\/p>\n

The “Chun-Li” artist also penned a sweet message to her “papa bear”\u00a0alongside the new photos on Instagram, thanking her baby boy for “choosing me to be your mama.”<\/p>\n

“Wishing you guys a happy & prosperous New Year. Thank you for your love & support throughout this journey. It\u2019s meant so much to me,” Minaj wrote.<\/p>\n

She continued:\u00a0“Becoming a mom is by far the most fulfilling job I\u2019ve ever taken on. Sending love to all the superhero mothers out there. Big hugs to all the women who have been pregnant during this challenging time.”<\/p>\n
