Chadwick Boseman<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0received a posthumous nomination for the\u00a02021 Oscars<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On Monday, March 15, it was announced that the late actor was recognized by the Academy in the Best Actor category for his role in Netflix’s\u00a0Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom<\/em>,\u00a0in which he portrayed\u00a0Levee Green<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The film was Boseman’s final performance before he\u00a0passed away<\/a>\u00a0on Aug. 28 after his private, year’s long battle with colon cancer. The actor was 43 years old.<\/p>\n

“It is with immeasurable grief that we confirm the passing of Chadwick Boseman,” a statement from his loved ones read at the time. “Chadwick was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016 and battled with it these last 4 years as it progressed to stage IV. A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much.”<\/p>\n

The statement revealed that the\u00a0Black Panther<\/em><\/a>\u00a0star died surrounded by family and his wife\u00a0Taylor Simone Ledward<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

Boseman’s legacy<\/a>\u00a0has not been forgotten and is gone unappreciated. Since his passing, he has received a number of prestigious awards\u2014including four\u00a0SAG Award nominations<\/a>\u00a0and a\u00a0Critics Choice Super Awards<\/a>\u2014with multiple being graciously accepted by his wife.<\/p>\n

In January, Ledward accepted the\u00a0Actor Tribute at the Gotham Awards<\/a>\u00a0on behalf of her late husband and spoke of his truth in her speech.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

“As an artist, an actor, and a person, Chad made a practice of telling the truth,” she shared. “He is the most honest person I’ve ever met. Because he didn’t just stop at speaking the truth, he actively searched for it\u2014in himself, in those around him and in the moment.\u00a0The truth can be a very easy thing for the self to avoid, but if one does not live in truth, then it’s impossible to live in line with a divine purpose for your life. And so, it became how he lived his life, day in, day out. Imperfect, but determined.”<\/p>\n

In February, while accepted Boseman’s Golden Globe for\u00a0Best Actor in a Motion Picture\u2014Drama\u00a0<\/a>for\u00a0Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

“He would thank God,” she began. “He would thank his parents.\u00a0He would thank his ancestors for\u00a0their guidance and their\u00a0sacrifice.\u00a0He would thank his incredible\u00a0team. He\u00a0would thank his team on set.\u00a0He would say something\u00a0beautiful, something inspiring,\u00a0something that would amplify\u00a0that little voice inside us that tells you you can, that tells you to keep\u00a0going, that calls you back to\u00a0what you are meant to be doing\u00a0at this moment in history.”<\/p>\n

Holding back tears, she continued, “I don’t have his words,\u00a0but we have to take all the\u00a0moments to celebrate those we\u00a0love. So thank you\u00a0HFPA for this opportunity to do\u00a0exactly that\u00a0and hun, you keep em coming.\u00a0Thank you.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n
