Emmy-winning set designer\u00a0Evelyn Sakash\u00a0<\/strong>was found dead in her home on Tuesday, March 30, six months after she\u00a0disappeared.<\/p>\n

An NYPD spokesperson told E! News that\u00a0her body was discovered under debris in her apartment. Sakash, 66, had\u00a0been\u00a0missing\u00a0<\/a>since September 2020, according to a GoFundMe page set up to help find her.<\/p>\n

Police\u00a0told the\u00a0Associated Press<\/a>\u00a0that\u00a0the artist\u00a0was found buried under garbage on her kitchen floor in College Point, Queens, New York, on Tuesday around 4:15 p.m.<\/p>\n

The New York Medical Examiner’s office confirmed to E! News she died of natural causes, as a result of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, which is described as a\u00a0hardening of the arteries that restricts blood flow.<\/p>\n

Sakash’s sister,\u00a0Ellen Brown<\/strong>,\u00a0hired a cleaning company to clean her apartment and that’s how they came to find her body, according to\u00a0GoFundMe organizer\u00a0Madeline O’Connell Hartling<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Hartling, who worked with Sakash in the art department for\u00a0Orange is the New Black<\/em>, remembers her former colleague as a “kind, loving, and generous friend and sister.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

“This is just devastating,”\u00a0Brown told the\u00a0New York Daily News<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>of her sister.\u00a0“She had a full life. She was so extraordinarily talented. She was a brilliant mind … I don’t want my sister to be remembered like that, like the way she was found.”<\/p>\n

Brown tried to explain\u00a0the circumstances surrounding Sakash’s death, saying,\u00a0“This was clearly in effect for a long time. She sometimes kept people at bay. The headline says \u2018Queens hoarder,’ but that’s not who she is.”<\/p>\n

Hartling told the\u00a0Daily News<\/em>, “I had no idea that she was living in her home like that.” She added, “It was part of her life but it was not all of it so I hope she can be remembered more charitably… She should be remembered by the contributions made to the industry and with the kindness she approached everyone she knew.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

Sakash was a production designer, art director and set decorator for 25 years, per IMDb. Some of the most well-known TV shows she worked on were\u00a0Law & Order: Criminal Intent<\/em>,\u00a0Orange Is the New Black<\/a><\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Allegra’s Window<\/em>. Her film credits include\u00a0Taxi<\/em>,\u00a0Still Alice<\/em>,\u00a0Mermaids<\/em>,\u00a0Paradise<\/em>,\u00a0Made in America<\/em>,\u00a0Mrs. Winterbourne<\/em>,\u00a0Every Messiah Is a Liar<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0My Brother.<\/em><\/p>\n

She also had ties to the\u00a0Sesame Street<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>franchise,\u00a0as a credited set decorator for\u00a0Elmo’s Magic Cookbook<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Sesame Street: CinderElmo<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Sakash’s most recent credited work was on\u00a0Once in a Lifetime<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Urge<\/em>\u00a0in 2016. She won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction\/Set Decoration\/Scenic Design for\u00a0Between the Lions<\/em>\u00a0in 2003 and was nominated again in 2004.<\/p>\n
