<\/p>\nHarlem rapper Black Rob, born Robert Ross and the Bad Boy artist best known for his 2000 hit \u201cWhoa,\u201d has died at the age of 51.<\/p>\n
The death was confirmed by former label mate Mark Curry, who posted an emotional video message on Instagram Saturday.<\/p>\n
\u201cRob passed away about an hour ago,\u201d Curry said as he walked down the street with tears pouring down his face.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know where to begin, but I thank everybody for the donations.\u201d<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
He added, \u201cWe\u2019ve lost a lot [of] legends and we can\u2019t afford to lose anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n
Curry had last week shared a GoFundMe appeal to help Ross \u201cfind a home, pay for medical help & stability during these trying times.\u201d<\/p>\n
The appeal was launched after the hip-hop community grew concerned about Ross, who had remembered the late DMX from a hospital bed, in a series of videos that described his many medical problems.<\/p>\n
Ross\u2019s series of Instagram posts were shared by DJ Self last week.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve been dealing with this for five years. Four strokes. I don\u2019t know what to tell you\u2026 I don\u2019t have no house to live in,\u201d the rapper said.<\/p>\n
\nBlack Rob joined Puff Daddy\u2019s Bad Boy Records in the mid-\u201990s, and will be forever remembered by his infectious, hook-laden single from his debut album \u201cLife Story.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWhoa!\u201d peaked at 43 on the Billboard Top 100, but the summer party jam continues to be heard blasting from car stereos in neighborhoods across the five boroughs more than 20 years later.<\/p>\n
