Blake Lively<\/a>\u00a0is grabbing her duster, pinning her hair, and sharpening her meat cleaver for a new\u00a0Netflix<\/a>\u00a0project. The\u00a0Gossip Girl<\/em>\u00a0alum will star in\u00a0Lady Killer<\/em>, a film based on the Dark Horse Comics series by Jo\u00eblle Jones and Jamie S. Rich, EW has confirmed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Lady Killer<\/em>\u00a0is about Josie Schuller, a picture-perfect 1950s housewife who has a secret life as a killer for hire.\u00a0Diablo Cody<\/a>, the screenwriter of such films as\u00a0Juno<\/em>,\u00a0Tully<\/em>, and\u00a0Young Adult<\/em>, is set to adapt the screenplay. Lively will serve as a producer in addition to starring.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In 2018, Jones spoke about why she set the\u00a0Lady Killer<\/em>\u00a0story in the\u00a0Mad Men<\/a><\/em>\u00a0era instead of modern times.<\/p>\n

“For me the time period was super-important because I wanted it to be a black comedy, and to me, nothing makes me laugh harder than contradictions. And especially, the whole book is based on a visual joke, and so there would be no book without that time period,”\u00a0Jones told\u00a0Syfy Wire<\/a>. “It was coming out just as\u00a0Mad Men<\/em>\u00a0ended and people kept making a similarity between the two, and I was fine with it\u2026 If I had to modernize it, I just wouldn’t do it.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Lady Killer<\/em>\u00a0was first introduced in 2015, and was nominated for Best Limited Series at the 2016 Eisner Awards.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

This is the second Jones comic to be developed for the screen. Previously, the CW was developing a series based on her DC comic\u00a0Wonder Girl<\/em>, but the network\u00a0decided not to move forward<\/a>\u00a0on the project.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
