Robert De Niro<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0is recovering after suffering an injury while on location for\u00a0the\u00a0Leonardo DiCaprio<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>movie\u00a0Killers of the Flower Moon<\/em>.<\/p>\n

A rep for\u00a0The Irishman<\/em>\u00a0actor tells E! News De Niro suffered “a mild leg injury”\u00a0amid ongoing production of\u00a0the Apple+ thriller. No further details were offered about his current status.<\/p>\n

Production for the\u00a0Martin Scorsese<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0film began in late April, with the cast\u00a0relocating to Osage County in Oklahoma for the Western. According to\u00a0IndieWire<\/a>, Scorsese released a statement announcing the April 19th start date, sharing, “To be able to tell this story on the land where these events took place is incredibly important and critical to allowing us to portray an accurate depiction of the time and people.”<\/p>\n

Screenwriter\u00a0Eric Roth<\/strong>\u00a0based the screenplay on author\u00a0David Grann<\/strong>‘s book,\u00a0Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI<\/em>, which detailed the Osage peoples’ battle for land rights after oil was found. There were a string of murders, later named the Reign of Terror, during the power struggle, causing the FBI to intervene.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

De Niro plays one of the main suspects, a ranch owner named\u00a0William Hale. Meanwhile,\u00a0DiCaprio portrays Hale’s nephew, Ernest Burkhart, who is married to\u00a0Lily Gladstone<\/strong>‘s Mollie, an Osage woman.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

This is the latest movie the actors have starred in together, having previously worked on\u00a0This Boy’s Life<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0the Scorsese directed short-film\u00a0The Audition<\/em>.<\/p>\n

They are joined by\u00a0Fargo<\/em>‘s\u00a0Jesse Plemons<\/a><\/strong>, and numerous other actors,\u00a0most of whom are indigenous. Additionally, multiple indigenous people are serving as consultants on the film.<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0IndieWire<\/em>, DiCaprio and Scorsese met with the Osage community and Chief of the Osage Nation\u00a0Geoffrey Standing Bear\u00a0<\/strong>prior to production. Standing Bear released\u00a0a statement voicing support for the movie and the influence it will have on the Osage Nation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n
