Nicki Minaj<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>shared her grief with fans in a post about the passing of her father,\u00a0Robert Maraj<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In a blog post on her website, the “Monster” rapper, who last year\u00a0welcomed her first child<\/a>\u00a0with her husband\u00a0Kenneth Petty<\/strong>, wrote about\u00a0how she is spending her free time outside of recording her new album and working on her\u00a0upcoming documentary series<\/a>\u00a0on HBO Max. She also took a moment to acknowledge her public silence on the death of her dad, who was\u00a0killed in a hit-and-run accident<\/a>\u00a0at age 70 in February.<\/p>\n

“Tho [sic] I can’t really bring myself to discuss the passing of my father as yet; I can say it has been the most devastating loss of my life,” the artist wrote. “I find myself wanting to call him all the time. More so now that he’s gone. Life is funny that way. May his soul rest in paradise. He was very loved & will be very missed.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

In the same note, Nicki took a moment to acknowledge\u00a0hip hop icon\u00a0DMX<\/strong>, who died at age 50<\/a>\u00a0in April following a heart attack. “The passing of DMX hit me like a ton of bricks,” she wrote. “Losing him felt like losing someone I grew up with. I adored him. Blessings to his family.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

Through the grief, Nicki has still been able to find joy in her life. In her latest post, the Grammy nominee raved about the Netflix series\u00a0The Crown<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>(“The great\u00a0Kenya Barris<\/strong>\u00a0recommended I watch it & I’ve been hooked ever since. It’s safe to say I’ve watched every single episode of every single season at least 5 times each,” she wrote) and the\u00a0Oscar-winning\u00a0Viola Davis\u00a0<\/strong>film\u00a0Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom<\/em><\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

She also shared a glimpse into her motherhood experience with her infant son. Though she and Kenneth have not yet publicly revealed the name of their little one, they have affectionately nicknamed him Papa Bear. Nicki first\u00a0shared full photos of her baby<\/a>\u00a0in January.<\/p>\n

“I’ve also been completely overwhelmed with joy & fulfillment in the world of Papa Bear. He’s so smart, funny, sweet, competitive… it’s kind of crazy how they have a full personality so early on. Yesterday I made him say mama. Even got it on video. Nicki is also revisiting some history-making music. On May 14, the rapper released her 2009 mixtape,\u00a0Beam Me Up Scotty<\/em>, on streaming platforms for the first time. In the process, she added three new tracks to the mixtape:\u00a0“Seeing Green” (with\u00a0Drake<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0&\u00a0Lil Wayne<\/a><\/strong>), “Fractions,” and “Crocodile Teeth (Remix)” (with\u00a0Skillibeng<\/strong>).”<\/p>\n

While Nicki may not be ready to speak about her father’s death at length, she’s thinking of him always.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n
