Chris Harrison won\u2019t be returning to front ABC\u2019s \u201cBachelor in Paradise,\u201d Page Six has learned. And the producers are taking something of a radical new approach the show\u2019s hosting duties.<\/p>\n
Back in February, veteran host Harrison announced that \u2014 after becoming embroiled in a race row because he defended a former \u201cBachelor\u201d contestant who had gone to an \u201cOld South\u201d plantation-themed party \u2014
\nhe would be \u201cstepping aside\u201d for an unspecified \u201cperiod of time.\u201d<\/p>\n
Harrison sat out a season of the \u201cBachelorette\u201d but it was unclear if he\u2019d return for its tropical spin-off.<\/p>\n

Now we\u2019re told that he\u2019ll be replaced by a revolving cast of guests hosts \u2014 including somewhat surprising stand-in, \u201cSaturday Night Live\u201d legend David Spade.<\/p>\n
Given that Harrison was replaced on the \u201cBachelorette\u201d by former contestants Tayshia Adams and Kaitlyn Bristowe,
\nthe smart money would have been on another alum taking the reins for the \u201cBachelor in Paradise.\u201d<\/p>\n
But sources tell Page Six that Spade was picked because he\u2019s a \u201cBachelor\u201d superfan who\u2019s built a cult following among fellow fans because of the hilarious commentary about the show that he doles out on his Instagram account.<\/p>\n
Spade has also recently spoken about his love of the franchise on \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live!\u201d<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, an insider says the comic\u2019s a fit because, \u201cthe producers want to put some fun in the show. They think it\u2019s become too serious.\u201d<\/p>\n
Harrison\u2019s downfall began after photos surfaced in February of recent \u201cBachelor\u201d contestant Rachael Kirkconnell attending an antebellum-themed fraternity formal in 2018.<\/p>\n
\nWhen asked about the shots on \u201cExtra,\u201d Harrison defended her saying, \u201cWe all need to have a little grace, a little understanding, a little compassion.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cBecause I have seen some stuff online \u2014 this judge, jury, executioner thing \u2014 where people are just tearing this girl\u2019s life apart and diving into, like, her parents, her parents\u2019 voting record,\u201d he added, \u201cIt\u2019s unbelievably alarming to watch this. I haven\u2019t heard Rachael speak on this yet. And until I actually hear this woman have a chance to speak, who am I to say any of this?\u201d<\/p>\n
He also said the \u201cwoke police\u201d had come for Kirkconnell.<\/p>\n
He later wrote on Instagram, \u201cWhile I do not speak for Rachael Kirkconnell, my intentions were simply to ask for grace in offering her an opportunity to speak on her own behalf.\u201d He added, \u201cWhat I now realize I have done is cause harm by wrongly speaking in a manner that perpetuates racism, and for that I am so deeply sorry.\u201d<\/p>\n
It remains unclear if Harrison will return to host \u201cBachelor.\u201d<\/p>\n
He had hosted the \u201cBachelor,\u201d \u201cBachelorette\u201d and \u201cBachelor in Paradise\u201d since they debuted it debuted in 2002, 2003 and 2014 respectively.<\/p>\n
