Convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein says he never assaulted Angelina Jolie after she claimed in a new interview she\u00a0had to \u201cescape\u201d an encounter<\/a>\u00a0with the disgraced movie mogul.<\/p>\n

\u201cTHERE WAS NEVER an assault, and NEVER an attempt to assault,\u201d Weinstein \u2014 who is currently\u00a0serving a 23-year sentence<\/a>\u00a0for rape and battery \u2014\u00a0responded in a statement to TMZ<\/a>\u00a0via his assistant on Saturday.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is brazenly untrue and clickbait publicity,\u201d the statement continued. \u201cYou\u2019re Angelina Jolie, every male and female in the world, I\u2019m sure, shows interest in you. Is the whole world assaulting you?\u201d<\/p>\n

The heated response from Weinstein comes after the actress described her alleged prior experience with him as \u201cbeyond a pass\u201d while promoting her upcoming book,\u00a0\u201cKnow Your Rights,\u201d<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0The Guardian in an interview published Saturday<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s very clear to me that this is for more sales on Angie\u2019s BOOK,\u201d Weinstein added in his statement.<\/p>\n

In the interview, Jolie \u2014 who starred in Weinstein\u2019s \u201cPlaying By Heart\u201d when she was 21 \u2014 says she told her first husband, Jonny Lee Miller, about the alleged incident.<\/p>\n

\u201cI stayed away and warned people about him. I remember telling Jonny, my first husband, who was great about it, to spread the word to other guys \u2014 don\u2019t let girls go alone with him,\u201d Jolie shared.<\/p>\n

She added that she was asked to do 2004\u2019s \u201cThe Aviator\u201d but said no because Weinstein was involved.<\/p>\n

Jolie\u2019s claims about Weinstein came out while she was discussing the ongoing issues she had with her ex-husband, Brad Pitt, that eventually led to their marriage ending.<\/p>\n

The \u201cMaleficent\u201d star claims that Pitt asked Weinstein to be a producer on his film \u201cKilling Them Softly\u201d \u2014 a film The Weinstein Company later distributed.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe fought about (Weinstein\u2019s involvement),\u201d Jolie shared. \u201cOf course it hurt.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, another one of Pitt\u2019s exes, Gwyneth Paltrow, had a completely different experience after Weinstein allegedly invited the young actress \u2014 then just 22 years old \u2014 back to his hotel room and suggested they get massages in the bedroom.<\/p>\n

Pitt allegedly confronted Weinstein<\/a>\u00a0at a movie premiere and physically threatened the producer which, at the time, was a huge risk for the up and coming actor.<\/p>\n

Plan B productions, Pitt\u2019s company, is also\u00a0working on a film<\/a>\u00a0about New York Times reporters Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey, who helped take down Weinstein with their Pulitzer Prize-winning report.<\/p>\n

Jolie first opened up about the alleged incident with Weinstein in\u00a0the 2017 NYT report<\/a>, claiming he\u2019d made \u201cunwanted advances\u201d toward her in a hotel room.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had a bad experience with Harvey Weinstein in my youth, and as a result, chose never to work with him again and warn others when they did,\u201d Jolie told the Times via email. \u201cThis behavior towards women in any field, any country is unacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
