Avril Lavigne Voices Support For Justin Bieber After He Confirms He’s Been Battling Lyme Disease
Avril Lavigne has voiced her support for fellow Canadian Justin Bieber after he announced his battle with Lyme disease Wednesday.
Lavigne shared a lengthy post on Instagram, insisting it was time more people paid attention to the disease.
The “Complicated” singer, who revealed her diagnosis in April 2015 after she began showing symptoms of the illness the year before, wrote: “Lyme is a daily struggle. For the better part of two years, I was really sick and fighting for my life.”
Lavigne, who has since launched the Avril Lavigne Foundation to support those with the disease or other serious illnesses, also pointed out: “Lyme disease is in all 50 states in the US and in EVERY country in the world, except Antarctica. It is a global pandemic but NOT a global priority.”
She confirmed she wrote her album Head Above Water while dealing with the diagnosis.
Evan Rachel Wood was among those commenting on the post, writing: “It’s brutal and I still suffer symptoms. Thank you for spreading awareness. There needs to be more research for this disease.”
The news of Bieber’s struggle with Lyme disease was first reported by TMZ, claiming the upcoming documentary series, “Justin Bieber: Seasons”, would reveal his diagnosis.
