Is Drinking Water In The Morning Really Healthy?

Recent claim about drinking water in a particular time of the day especially in the morning increases its viability, however, several studies argue that water’s contribution to health such as rehydration, weight loss, increased mental performance and detoxification could just happen at any time of the day.

Drinking water doesn’t necessarily have to be in the morning since some believe that they are dehydrated because their urine appears to be concentrated. A dark colored urine is not always an indicator of the body’s hydration levels.

It has been determined in one study, which analyzed varying hydration status and fluid intake in 164 fit adults, that although there is increased water intake in the first few hours upon waking up, their hydration levels are not significantly affected by this. It only shows that people can still be inadequately hydrated even drinking water in the morning and despite passing a light colored urine.

Therefore, whenever you feel thirsty, just drink adequate amounts of water. Thirst is the sensation your body prompts when it needs water and that can happen throughout the day, not only in the morning.

Another study showed that water intake can potentially improve an adult’s metabolic rate by 24 to 30 percent, thus inducing weight loss. Additionally, about 48 calories are burned by just drinking water double the usual amount daily.

While these can be scientifically true, there are no evidence that suggested these results are limited to consuming water in the morning.

According to one research, mild dehydration disturbs mental alertness, concentration and physical performance, thereby recommending that drinking water upon waking up improves cognitive functions.

However, there is just no proof that limits rehydration to the first hours in the morning in order to achieve maximum mental benefits.

One more common misconception is that drinking water in the early morning flushes out toxins in the body. While water is definitely required to remove body wastes, there is no science that could back up the morning habit claim.

Cleaning the body off of toxins, which is the kidneys primary function, is not restricted to a particular time of the day. It continually happens as long as there are substances to eliminate and water to aid the process, may it be in the morning, in the afternoon or in the evening.
