Julia Roberts is taking her talent to the small screen this winter. The Oscar-winning actress who has been a bonafide movie star for decades is now pivoting to the world of television. The pretty woman recently made an appearance at the Television Critics Association panel to discuss her new series Homecoming.
In the series that will air on Amazon Prime streaming services, Roberts plays character Heidi Bergham who is a caseworker, who deals with the reintegration of soldiers who are returning from war.
The show is based on the popular podcast of the very same name written by Micah Bloomberg and Eli Horowitz.
When asked what it was about doing a series that interested her, she remarked that she wanted to do something that she could bring into people’s homes.
The 50-year-old star likens the new wave of television via streaming services to a delivery service.
“We’re delivering entertainment right to your doorstep.”
She enjoys the idea of having a bit more time than the standard film allows to further unravel a story and what people go through in this life.
Roberts admits that part of what she loves so much about the show and the television platform is that it’s a “great mental challenge every day.”
In the show, the actress is reunited with actor Dermot Mulroney, whom she’s been in two films with, most notably My Best Friend’s Wedding.
Their characters are romantically involved, to which Roberts joked that it only took “30 years!”
The show will be available via Amazon Prime on November 2nd.
There promises to be much mystery, intrigue and drama throughout the course of the show.
