The horror series shift focus from Victorian London to pre-World War II Los Angeles.
‘Penny Dreadful’ was, without a doubt, a very odd series that took a lot of getting used to, but once you were in it, there really was something special about it.
Mixing horror, drama, soap opera tropes, and just about every stock horror character you could think of into one TV series means there wasn’t anything subtle about it. The sequel series, ‘Penny Dreadful: City of Angels’, looks to be doing something similar, so there’s at least some kind of continuity with it.
The story shifts from Victorian London to Los Angeles two years before the beginning of World War II, and like any story set in the ’40s in Los Angeles, there’s a conspiracy going on. Per the official synopsis, the story will follow the construction of the freeway system, the prevalence of folklore among Mexican-American residents, the LAPD’s violent history of racism, not to mention taking a swipe at radio evangelism, and Nazis in Los Angeles.
As if that wasn’t enough, it looks like ‘Game of Thrones’ alum Natalie Dormer is in there as… an angel? Multiple characters? Who knows. Either way, it’s A Lot™️ but that’s kind of expected when it’s ‘Penny Dreadful’.
Here’s the teaser. ‘Penny Dreadful: City of Angels’ debuts in the US in April, so expect it on our screens pretty soon.
