Charlize Theron urges fans to support victims of domestic violence after $1M COVID relief donation
Charlize Theron’s eponymous Africa Outreach Project (CTAOP) has donated $1 million to COVID-19 relief efforts, with half of that money earmarked to support shelters and community programs for women who have suffered from domestic violence via Together For Her, according to GMA. “During this unprecedented global crisis, we are being told to shelter in the safety of our homes — but what if our homes aren’t safe?” the Oscar winner tweeted this week. “For the millions of women and children around the world sheltering with their abuser, home can be dangerous. Our rallying cry is this: Please join us in showing women experiencing domestic violence that they are not alone — we are behind them, with them, for them, #TogetherForHer.” Together For Her provides services including safe accommodation, counseling, crisis intervention and reproductive health services. Charlize and her foundation are also working with CARE and the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) to join in their efforts to support victims of gender-based violence during the pandemic.
