Kelly Clarkson revealed that her children are currently in therapy to help them navigate their parents’ divorce.
The “Since U Been Gone” singer shares daughter River Rose, 6, and son Remington Alexander, 4, with Brandon Blackstock.
On Monday, during a joint interview with fellow “Voice” coach Gwen Stefani, Clarkson, 38, shared that she’s been focusing on her kids since filing for divorce from Blackstock, 43, in June.
“We have a lot of help as far as therapists or child psychologists because we want to do it right,” the TV show host explained to “Extra.” ”I definitely want to do it right. Everyone’s sad and it’s okay to be sad.”
“It’s just one day when you’re like, ‘Wow, this has forever changed and it’s not just my heart has changed, there’s other little hearts, too,” she continued.
Clarkson admitted that it’s been difficult to deal with the divorce as a public figure and “at the same time protecting these little kids you adore.”
Stefani — who shares sons Kingston, 14, Zuma, 12, and Apollo, 6 with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale — lauded Clarkson for “doing a really great job.”
“I think it’s hard to be a public person, but now that you add in a family … they didn’t choose it,” Stefani, 51, added.
In an interview last month, Clarkson confessed that even though she’s, “a very open person,” she won’t be “truly open” about the split, “because there’s kids involved … It’s a lot to process and deal with, just as a family. So because it’s not just me, I probably won’t go too deep with it.”
Blackstock also has a daughter, Savannah, 18, and son, Seth, 13, from a previous marriage.
