Chris Kattan is eager to star in a “Night at the Roxbury” sequel despite saying last year that he destroyed his friendship with Will Ferrell while filming the original.
In his explosive 2019 memoir, Kattan claimed that “SNL” honcho Lorne Michaels pressured him to have sex with the film’s would-be director Amy Heckerling, which ultimately put a strain on his friendship with Ferrell. (An “SNL” spokesperson denied the accusation).
However, Kattan, 50, told Page Six in a new interview that working with the “Elf” star is “one of the coolest things to do” and that he’s “one of those guys who is just as funny off-screen as he is on-screen.”
“I think it’s a no-brainer that it would be a fun movie to do, I think,” he said. “I don’t think it would be difficult to be made and difficult for it to make a lot of money. I would up for it. I think it would be a lot of fun.”
Kattan added that the 1998 cult classic, starring Kattan and Ferrell as nightclub-obsessed brothers, “deserves” a sequel.
Kattan has been busy during lockdown working on new projects and also binge-watching shows, with “90 Day Fiancé” being his clear favorite.
“When you watch it, you could swear it’s written by David Mamet,” Kattan said. “It’s that good, you can’t believe how good the events are that are unfolding in front of your very eyes … It’s so bad that it’s good.”
