Ashley Tisdale Defends Her ‘High School Musical’ Character, Throws Some Serious Shade at Troy & Gabriella
For some reason, Sharpay was trending on Twitter on Monday (Sept. 15). For those who need a refresh, Sharpay Evans was Ashley Tisdale’s fabulous popular girl character in Disney Channel’s High School Musical franchise.
The social media throwback today seemed to have stemmed from an unearthed video of Sharpay and her brother Ryan performing “What I’ve Been Looking For” as their winter musical audition song in the 2006 film. The clip got tens of thousands of retweets, and an influx of support for Sharpay, who was portrayed as the villain in the movie.

“Sharpay wasn’t the villain she put her blood sweat and tears into theater and didn’t want someone who wasn’t all about it to take her crown especially two people who wasn’t even reliable to show up,” one user wrote. As a reminder, Zac Efron’s Troy and Vanessa Hudgens’ Gabriella were late to their final musical audition because of other after-school activities.

The Sharpay love even had Tisdale join in on the fun. “Finally, y’all are seeing the light,” she replied to one tweet.
She even shaded her fictional rivals. “Sharpay was chasing her dream, Troy and Gabriella were chasing each other,” she cheekily tweeted.
