Emilia Clarke made a recent appearance on “The Graham Norton Show”, where she opened up about meeting Beyonce and Jay-Z at the couple’s post-Oscars party earlier this year. According to the “Game of Thrones” star, it didn’t go well.
“So I did not expect to see them, you know, in the flesh, I wasn’t expecting that at all,” she explained.
“I was just like, ‘Oh my god, I’m invited!’ And Queen Bey came up to me, and obviously, looked at me like, ‘Oh… I’d like to talk to you!’ and I just did not respond in the way that I was thinking she thought that I might respond.”
She elaborated: “As in, she obviously came up and was like, this’ll be cool, and I was like, ‘Oh my god.’ [I was] too many drinks in, started crying, it didn’t go well. I mean, literally, eyes welling up like, ‘I can’t handle this, it’s too intense.’”
Clarke discussed her encounter with Beyonce earlier this year in an interview with The New Yorker.
“I see this vision, this angel, this incredible woman float towards me,” she said. “I can’t quite control myself. And Beyonce says to me, ‘Oh, my goodness, it’s so wonderful to meet you. I think you’re brilliant.’ I just couldn’t handle it! I was on the verge of tears.”
Clarke continued, “I could see myself reflected in her eyes. I could see her go, ‘Oh, no. I misjudged this. This girl is crazy and I’m not going to have a real conversation with another celebrity. I’m having a conversation with a crazed fan who’s looking at me like a rabbit in the headlights.’ Which is exactly what I was.”
