For the third year in a row, wildfires have ravaged California, destroying homes and businesses and killing multiple residents of the affected regions. This week, Metallica announced plans to donate $100,000 to support relief efforts in both Northern and Southern California, according to Rolling Stone. The band and its All Within My Hands Foundation is set to split the donation down the middle, with $50,000 going to the Sonoma County Resilience Fund and $50,000 headed for the Wildfire Relief Fund. “Sadly, for the third year in a row, communities we have called home throughout the state of California are again experiencing the tragedy left in the wake of wildfires,” Metallica tweeted on Monday, Nov. 4. “Both organizations are dedicated to long-term recovery efforts, helping residents resume normal lives as they get back on their feet after the devastation of these firestorms.” The band also urged fans and followers to volunteer their time or homes to those in need or to donate money, non-perishable food, clothing and other supplies as the victim toll continues to rise. The wildfire trend is expected to worsen as long as climate change continues.
