We’re used to seeing Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins hosting on TV, but now the pair will flex their acting muscles in their first scripted comedy series. The duo will star in a six-part series for Sky called Hitmen, airing soon.
The series follows two best friends (Mel and Sue) trying to make their way in the world with only each other to rely on. They also just happen to kill people for a living.
Hitmen: What’s it about?
Having accidentally stumbled into a career in contract killing, misfits Fran and Jamie (Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc) are not your typical hitmen. Based largely out of their van, each episode follows the duo as they try to carry out their latest hit, which inevitably gets derailed by the pair’s frivolous bickering, and inane antics. Meanwhile they also have to contend with the terrifying offscreen presence of their boss “Mr K”, constantly checking up on their progress and making it clear in no uncertain terms that their own lives are at risk if they muck it up.
The series also stars Sian Clifford, Jason Watkins, Nick Mohammed, Asim Chaudhry and Tonya Cornelisse.
Morwenna Gordon, Commissioning Editor, Sky Comedy, said: “We are thrilled to have Mel and Sue back on our screens, in their first ever scripted comedy series. We have a brilliant cast, featuring many well-known faces, in a number of unexpected and potentially life-threatening circumstances that Fran and Jamie find themselves in along the way.”
Arnold Widdowson, Producer, said: “Hitmen is a real treat for Mel and Sue fans – a surprising version of the two that for all the thrill of the action still retains their hilarious and mischievous dynamic. It’s been an absolute privilege and joy to work with such an iconic double act, and with our brilliant writers Joe Parham and Joe Markham, on a show that allows them to flex new muscles they never knew they had. Mainly in their trigger fingers.”
Hitmen: When’s it on TV?
Hitmen has been confirmed to air on Sky One and streaming service NOW TV from Friday 25 March. Launching as a double bill at 10pm, all six episodes will be available from this date.
