Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino revealed Friday that he recently celebrated five years of sobriety.
Taking to Instagram, the “Jersey Shore” star said he reached the five-year milestone in December, calling it “one of [his] proudest moments.”
“BDS has been through some situations in life, addiction being one of them. I have grown a lot as an individual, overcome a lot of obstacles, and one of my proudest moments so far has been celebrating 5 years of continuous sobriety this past December,” Sorrentino wrote.
Sorrentino, 38, who has been candid about his past prescription drug abuse, said Friday he hopes that by speaking out about his journey he can help others.
“I share my journey of addiction, because it is so important to break the stigma of addiction. People are suffering out there because they are afraid to speak out about needing help. If I can help just one person find their voice, I know it was all worth it!” the MTV personality shared.
Sorrentino also provided the contact information of his treatment specialists.
“If you or someone you know are struggling with addiction or mental health issues, don’t be afraid to ask for help. If I can do this I know you can too!” he concluded.
Sorrentino is looking ahead to his next chapter as a first-time father. In December, he and wife Lauren announced they’re expecting a baby boy in the spring.
The couple has been married since 2018.
