William H. Macy, Emmy Rossum’s on-screen dad in the popular series, Shameless, revealed that he stands behind his co-star following her announcement that she was leaving. After nine seasons, Emmy revealed she is departing from the Showtime production.
During an interview with reporters from Entertainment Weekly, Macy said he wasn’t “surprised,” and thinks Emmy “made the right choice” by leaving the show now.
William added, “we’ve been expecting it.” According to the legendary performer, it’s hard to imagine what life would be like without the television series, and while it’s exciting, part of that experience is “very frightening.”
According to the Fargo star, Emmy has another show in which she’s an executive producer, thus, her career is moving on ahead. Also, “she just got married,” the actor remarked.
In a statement released, the actress reminisced on the people she got the chance to grow accustomed to over the years. The 31-year-old wrote, “being ensconced in that messy Gallagher family love is something I’d always dreamed of.”
According to a source who spoke with E! Online, the decision to leave the series was more about career growth, rather than any personal animosity or behind-the-scenes tension.
Emmy has left with the “utmost appreciation” for the people she worked with and is merely ready to begin getting roles, hopefully, on the big screen.
Emmy is also an outspoken advocate for the body positivity movement. Previously, the actress, as well as Stephanie Beatriz from Brooklyn-Nine-Nine, criticized Kim Kardashian for stating she weighed just 119 pounds, at 5’3″.
