As a mother of three, Jessica Alba’s had plenty of practice in the motherhood realm. But from her perspective, there’s always room for improvement. Speaking to an audience made up primarily of college-aged women at Her Campus Media’s annual Her Conference on Saturday, June 1, the actress and Honest Company founder explained that she and her 10-year-old daughter, Haven, go to therapy together so Jessica can, as she put it (via THR), “learn to be a better mother to her and communicate better with her.” It was a decision she made in part because she never had the opportunity to do something like that with her own mom. “Some people think, like in my family, you talk to a priest and that’s it. I don’t really feel comfortable talking to him about my feelings,”she explained. “I didn’t grow up in an environment where you talked about this stuff, and it was just like shut it down and keep it moving … So I find a lot of inspiration just in talking to my kids.” Jessica, who also shares Haven and Hayes Warren with her husband, Cash Warren, also delved into ways she’s tried to make motherhood a little bit easier in the workplace for Honest Company employee moms, as well. She said she gives women at her company four months of maternity leave (new dads get two months of paternity leave), a flexible work schedule upon their return to the office and what she called a “dignified” way to pump milk while at work for those who need it.
