The Chicago Tribune revealed earlier today that Ms. Ariana Grande would take the center stage at Lollapalooza next year. Due to the shortage of rock bands who used to take the main stage at concert festivals, Lollapalooza had to ask Grande to perform instead.
Sources who spoke with Variety claim that Grande was booked for Lollapalooza which takes place in Chicago’s Grant Park from the 1st of August until the 4th. She’ll also take the center stage at Coachella in April of next year.
While it hasn’t been officially confirmed, reports have it that typically, the Lollapalooza lineup is announced sometime in the third week of March. As a consequence, official confirmation will likely be at least weeks or even months from now.
Some have suggested that Lollapalooza was merely copying Coachella, but reports claim that the organizers have been trying to secure Grande for the top spot for months now. Grande took the place of Kanye West at Coachella due to his demands for staging.
As it was previously reported, Kanye backed out due to a disagreement with the festival’s organizers. Kanye supposedly had requested his own stage which was like a dome in the middle of the festival, but Coachella would have to eliminate many of the port-a-potties so it was ultimately a no-go.
While Kanye seems to be upsetting more and more people all of the time, Grande is doing the opposite. Her latest album was released to great reviews and her new single, “thank u, next,” was released to fanfare and it has since become somewhat of a meme in and of itself.
Moreover, the breakup between Grande and Pete Davidson has kept the pop-star in the tabloids continuously, in addition to the death of the late Mac Miller, as well as the Manchester Bombings in the previous year. It’s clear Ariana has had an exceptionally rough past 2 years.
Despite her tribulations, however, her success has continued to escalate. It isn’t clear when Ariana’s team will announce her choice to headline Lollapalooza.
