Johnny Depp is detailing new allegations against ex-wife Amber Heard.
The 56-year-old actor claims Heard put a cigarette out on his right cheek and threw a bottle at him during a fight in Australia one month after their wedding in March 2015.
“On March 8, 2015, after learning of the existence of a post-nuptial agreement, Amber Heard committed one of her countless violent attacks against Johnny Depp,” his lawyer, Adam Waldman, said in an emailed statement to USA TODAY on Friday.
Waldman said Heard threw a “bottle that severed the last third of (Depp’s) finger” and burned “his face with a cigarette,” requiring the actor to be hospitalized.
Depp’s latest allegation was made in an amended response to a libel lawsuit against News Group Newspapers Limited over a 2018 article by “The Sun” that called him a “wife-beater.”
However, Waldman said Depp was the victim of Heard’s “abuse hoaxes” and “serial vicious acts,” adding that Depp has dozens of witness to corroborate his claims.
“Ms. Heard, who has a prior arrest and incarceration for violent domestic abuse, has one witness to her now-obliterated fraudulent claims – herself,” Waldman said.
USA TODAY reached out to Heard’s attorney for comment.
The Depp-Heard divorce, which happened less than two years after they married, was an ugly affair featuring allegations of physical abuse, restraining orders, media-mobbed court hearings, leaked texts and cellphone pictures of facial bruises.
The former couple settled their divorce out of court in August 2016. Heard donated her entire $7 million settlement to a charity focused on fighting domestic abuse of women.
In March, Depp filed a civil lawsuit against Heard seeking $50 million and accusing her of defaming him by setting herself up as a “domestic abuse” victim in an opinion column she wrote in the Washington Post in December.
“This frivolous action is just the latest of Johnny Depp’s repeated efforts to silence Amber Heard,” Heard’s lawyer, Eric George, said in a statement emailed to USA TODAY in March. “She will not be silenced.”
