Have you ever watched a movie or TV show, sure that you knew the actor, only to discover they’re a completely different person than you thought?
Now imagine being one of those stars in a regular day-to-day scenario and getting chased down by fans that legitimately think you’re someone else.
Hollywood is full of celebrity doppelgängers, which leads to some pretty hilarious cases of mistaken identity.
Just for the LOLs, we’ve rounded up some of the best celeb mix-ups from some of our favourite Stan stars.
Isla Fisher and Amy Adams
Isla Fisher (Wedding Crashers) and Amy Adams (American Hustle) — who are friends IRL — are aware of their lookalike status and Fisher even pulled a prank on friends by sending out photos of Amy’s face photoshopped onto hers in on a family Christmas card with husband Sacha Baron Cohen (Who Is America?).
“No one noticed,” Fisher said on Today. “Everyone was like, ‘Oh, your card was so cute.’ I was like, ‘It was a joke. It’s not me, it’s Amy!'”
Ryan Gosling and Ryan Reynolds
Having the same first name is just the beginning for these weirdly similar stars. Ryan Gosling (The Proposal) and Ryan Reynolds (The Amityville Horror) are both Canadian, they’re both Scorpios and they’re both celebrated actors and devoted dads. Talk about a dream team.
Jessica Chastain and Bryce Dallas Howard
Jessica Chastain and Bryce Dallas Howard have been compared to each other since their early days as acting students in New York. But it took them working on a movie together to really see it for themselves.
When they were shooting The Help, as Chastain explained on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, “We grabbed each other and were like, ‘Let’s look in the mirror.’ And we looked at our faces side by side, and we were like, ‘Okay, we look alike.'”
Daniel Radcliffe and Elijah Wood
Daniel Radcliffe isn’t here for comparisons to Lord of The Rings star Elijah Wood.
“If you come up and say, ‘Are you Elijah Wood?’ I’ll say ‘no’, and I won’t tell you who I am,” the Miracle Workers star said the during a podcast interview.
Speaking of their similarities, Radcliffe reasoned “It causes the idea of us is the same. We’re both short guys with big blue eyes and brown hair. And we did fantasy movies that came out at the same time.” Fair enough.
Michelle Williams and Carey Mulligan
From their matching blonde pixie cuts to their stunning brown eyes, Michelle Williams (Blue Valentine) and Carey Mulligan (Inside Llewyn Davis) could easily be twins. However considering Mulligan is British and Williams is American, it’s highly unlikely. We can still dream.
Vin Diesel and The Rock
Beefcake action heroes Vin Diesel (XXX) and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (Hercules) have famously butted heads in the past, but recently put their feud to bed while collaborating on a new project. The Rock even referred to Diesel as his “brother Vin” on social media… and he’s not far off, the pair could easily pass as siblings.
Helen Hunt and Jodie Foster
Helen Hunt and Jodie Foster are two actresses who constantly get confused for each other. In 2016, What Women Want star Hunt took to Twitter to share a hilarious mix up by a Starbucks barista who wrote ‘Jody’ on her coffee cup.
“It happens all the time,” The Silence of the Lambs star later told news.com.au, adding, “We talk about it a lot.”
Chris Rock and Kevin Hart
Comedians and best friends Chris Rock (Madagascar) and Kevin Hart (Soul Plane) are so used to being mistaken that they have no issues calling out “fans” on social media who mix them up.
Naturally, they get in on the joke and like to play along, as evidenced by Hart’s video with a fan who assumed she was Rock. “These are the moments that keep me humble,” the 40-year-old posted to Instagram.
Zachary Quinto and Eli Roth
Actor Zachary Quinto and director Eli Roth are scarily similar to look at, and some internet conspiracy theorists even think they’re the same person. One thing’s for sure, both have a yen for thrillers, with Quinto recently starring in Hotel Artemis and Roth directing the likes of Knock Knock and Death Wish.
Rob Lowe and Ian Somerhalder
They may be 15 years apart, but actors Rob Lowe (Parks and Recreation) and Ian Somerhalder (Lost) are dead ringers for each other.
Between their beautifully chiselled jaws and gorgeous blue eyes, we’re not sure where to look!
Tom Hardy and Logan Marshall-Green
Actor Logan Marshall-Green (you might remember him for playing Ryan’s brother, Trey Atwood, on The O.C.) looks so much like Mad Max: Fury Road star Tom Hardy it’s actually scary.
Dax Shepard and Zach Braff
The resemblance between Dax Shepard (The Judge) and his friend Zach Braff (Scrubs) was hilariously documented by Shepard’s wife Kristen Bell — the star of Veronica Mars— when she made a FaceSwap picture of the pair that Braff thought was so epic, he told Twitter he was “gonna get this put on a T-shirt.”
