Selena Gomez has said she frequently deletes Instagram from her phone because the negative comments get to her. Sometimes negativity plays out in less straightforward ways, though. When Selena released the video for “Back To You,” critics accused her of copying the well-known work of Palestinian-Australian photographer Sarah Bahbah. Sarah mentioned the controversy on social media at one point. And as she recently recalled to Page Six, the reaction from Selena’s fans was swift and nasty. “Her fans wrote damaging messages on my works, [which are] about the taboos around child sexual abuse,” said Sarah, who is a survivor of such abuse herself. “I’m flattered if I was a source of inspiration. I just take it as a compliment,” she added. Asked if she considered suing Selena, Sarah explained that legal action was “not a worthwhile investment for my mental health.” In fact, she said she would “love to collaborate” with Selena directly sometime.
