On the heels of news Miley Cryus reached a settlement in a $300 million copyright infringement suit comes news Katy Perry’s legal team is asking for a retrial after being hit with a $2.78 million judgment regarding her song, “Dark Horse.” Billboard reports lawyers representing Katy, Dr. Luke and their collaborators are slamming the decision as a “travesty of justice,” saying attorneys for Christian rapper Flame didn’t prove their client’s 2008 song “Joyful Noise” was even available to the production team accused of stealing parts of the song for “Dark Horse.” Katy’s lawyers have reportedly asked for either a retrial or for the court to toss the jury’s decision. The two sides of been going back and forth on the lawsuit for years, with music industry experts asserting the “landmark case” could have far-reaching impacts for other copyright suits.
