Cancelled: ‘Suits’
The USA Network has announced it has renewed “Suits” for a ninth season, which will also be its last. In a statement, series creator Aaron Korsh thanked the show’s cast, the studio and the writers, but had special thanks for “the fans who have stuck with the ‘Suits’ family through thick and thin, through can-openers and flashbacks — thank you for always speaking your mind… I look forward to enraging and hopefully sometimes delighting you with the final episodes.”
Renewed: ’90 Day Fiance’
TLC has renewed “90 Day Fiance” for a seventh season of following foreign fiances with K-1 visas who have 90 days to decide whether they’ll marry their American petitioner or leave the U.S. “It is so exciting that, after six seasons, the tried and true original ’90 Day Fiance’ is captivating more viewers than ever,” said Howard Lee, president and GM of TLC. “From laughter to tears to a ticking clock, TLC is dedicated to giving our viewers a rollercoaster of emotions with ’90 Day Fiance’ — and we’re just getting started.”
Renewed: ‘Grace and Frankie’
“Grace and Frankie” is still going strong, and days before the season 5 premiere Netflix has renewed the Jane Fonda/Lily Tomlin comedy for a sixth season. This makes “Grace and Frankie” Netflix’s longest-running live-action comedy series.
Cancelled: ‘Criminal Minds’
It’s a case of good news, bad news for fans of “Criminal Minds”, which has been renewed by CBS for a 15th season — which will be the last for the long-running procedural crime drama. According to Variety, the final season will be a short one, consisting of just 10 episodes, which will be shot back-to-back with the season-14 episodes that are currently in production.
Cancelled: ‘I Love You, America With Sarah Silverman’
Hulu won’t be ordering a third season of Sarah Silverman’s “I Love You, America”, with the comedian announcing the news on social media. “Well, Hulu cancelled ‘I Love You, America’ and we’re all pretty damn heartbroken,” Silverman tweeted. This may not be the end for the show; according to Variety, “I Love You, America” will be shopped around to other networks and streaming platforms.
Renewed: ‘Days Of Our Lives’
Global’s hit soap opera “Days Of Our Lives” has been renewed for a 55th season. “It’s a great day in Salem! The sands in the hourglass will continue to flow for yet another year,” said executive producer Ken Corday. “We’re grateful to NBC and Sony for their continued support of the show and, of course, to our dedicated and passionate fans, we owe it all to you. Thank you for taking us through our 55th season. We can’t wait for you to see what we have in store.” The 53rd season, that ran from September 2017-September 2018, saw a 4 per cent increase in total viewers vs. the previous seasons. “Days Of Our Lives” airs weekdays at 1 p.m. ET/PT on Global.
Coming Soon: ‘Batwoman’
It’s official: Ruby Rose will be starring in “Batwoman”, with The CW ordering a pilot for a standalone series featuring the DC Comics superhero, recently introduced to viewers in the network’s three-way “Arrow”/”The Flash”/”Supergirl” crossover. Caroline Dries (“The Vampire Diaries”) will serve as showrunner, with Greg Berlanti onboard as exec producer. David Nutter (“Game of Thrones”) will direct the pilot, after previously directing the “Arrow” and “Flash” pilots.
Cancelled: ‘Z Nation’
“Z Nation” is no more. Producer David Michael Latt announced doomsday for SyFy’s zombie drama. “We wanted to tell you face to face… that we were not renewed for season six,” Latt said in a Periscope video on Friday, Dec. 21. “We’re stopping at season five. We’re very sad, but we’re also really grateful with the opportunities that we had on the show.”
Cancelled: ‘Elementary’
Seven long seasons will mark the CBS run of “Elementary”. The modern day Sherlock Holmes & Watson series’ upcoming 13-episode season will mark the last time the show will air on CBS.
Renewed: David Letterman’s ‘My Next Guest…’
David Letterman’s talk show “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction” is coming back in 2019 with all new episodes. Netflix announced it has renewed the series for a second season. No premiere date or guests have been announced so far. The first season featured such luminaries as Barack Obama, George Clooney and Malala Yousafzai.
