Keira Knightley has occasionally appeared topless in such films as 2008’s “The Duchess” and “The Edge of Love” (also released in 2008), but she is making it official: she will no longer do nude scenes, and will instead enlist the services of a body double when necessary.
The decision, she told The Times, is simply that she no longer finds it appropriate now that she’s a 33-year-old mother (she and husband James Righton welcomed daughter Edie in 2015).
“That was a choice,” she said of her decision to no longer do nudity. “I get to choose the body double. It is an interesting selection process! It kind of goes like, ‘That’s a little bit like you, but better. She has a lovely body, so she can do this’… then I get final approval of what the edit is.”
She added: “I have been comfortable earlier with more nudity than I am now. I have had a kid, I am in my thirties, I am very happy with my body. But I don’t feel I need to get it out that much any more.”
However, she also pointed out that even when she had done nudity in the past, she had “never done a scene where I felt, ‘Whoa, that went too far.'”
Back in 2012, Knightley spoke to Allure about why she was comfortable with onscreen nudity — to a point.
“S-*e*-/x scenes in films — I’m quite rigorous about what gets exposed,” she said. “No bottom half! I don’t mind exposing my t*ts because they’re so small — people really aren’t that interested.”
