March 8 marked 2019’s International Women’s Day bringing attention to women’s rights and the ongoing fight for equality around the world with a special focus on the theme, “Think equal, build smart, innovate for change.” A slew of celebs took to social media as the day got underway to mark the moment with special shoutouts to women who inspire them and people of all genders and ages who remain committed to fighting for gender parity. “Whether you’re 🥁marching, 💃🏻dancing, 🌹rising, ✊🏻resisting, 💥protesting, 🚫striking, ❤️uniting or 🎈celebrating, wishing you all a wonderful #internationalwomensday!,” wrote UN Women Goodwill Ambassador Emma Watson, who went on to post about the importance and need for rape crisis centers. Serena Williams directed fans and followers to her Fortune Magazine piece exploring the results of two Survey Monkey surveys she urged the company to conduct to, as she put it, “help us better understand the adversity women face when it comes to balancing their professional and personal lives.” “84% of women think other women’s support is critical to advancing their careers,” the tennis star and mom posted. “On #IWD2019 women let’s promise to empower each other!” The celebs speaking out in support of International Women’s Day weren’t just women, either.
