Kendall Jenner has announced her brand new business in the form of tequila.
The model took to Instagram on Tuesday February 17 to announce the launch of 818 tequila, which the 25-year-old says has been four years in the making.
Described as ‘hand-crafted tequila’ from Jalisco, Mexico, Jenner explained that the launch has involved blind tasting sessions, trips to the distillery, and anonymously entering the drink into competitions – with 818 winning a long list of awards according to Jenner’s post.
The supermodel’s foray into the booming alcohol business marks her taking a significantly different professional path than her famous sisters who have mainly entered the fashion, beauty and lifestyle industries.
Kim Kardashian is at the helm of both KKW beauty and her lingerie and shapewear brand SKIMs (as well as continuing to study for a law degree), Kourtney has her lifestyle platform Poosh, Khloé co-founded her denim line Good American a few years ago and Kylie Jenner famously runs her beauty empire Kylie Cosmetics.
While she might not be following in the footsteps of her sisters, she’s not the first celebrity to venture into the world of alcohol.
Sean John Combs, otherwise know as Puff Daddy, famously owns a share of Ciroc vodka, Jay-Z owns Ace of Spades champagne, Ryan Reynolds has the American gin brand Aviation and George Clooney co-founded Casamigos tequila with his friends Rande Gerber (Kaia Gerber‘s father) and Mike Meldman, before the trio sold it to the alcohol company Diageo in 2017. More recently, Cara Delevingne and her sisters Poppy and Chloe launched a prosecco line called Della Vite.
There’s no word yet as to when and how you can get your hands on a bottle of 818 or how much a bottle will cost. The model said on Instagram the drink would be ‘coming soon’…
